German wind energy major Nordex Group is set to expand its engineering and research capabilities in Chennai with the establishment of a new Engineering and Research & Development (R&D) Centre in the city.
Nordex has exchanged a facilitation Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Guidance Tamil Nadu, the state government’s nodal agency for investment promotion and single-window facilitation to establish the centre in Chennai. The proposed facility is expected to create approximately 1,000 high-skilled jobs in its initial phase, with opportunities across engineering, research and development, supply chain management and digital transformation.
The new centre will build on Nordex’s existing Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Chennai and is expected to significantly expand the company’s engineering, research and innovation capabilities in Tamil Nadu.
The development is particularly significant for Chennai’s growing role as a destination for high-value engineering and technology operations. With Nordex strengthening its R&D footprint in the city, the project is expected to create new opportunities for skilled professionals in engineering, digital technologies, research and related functions.

Nordex is among the world’s leading wind turbine manufacturers and has a global presence in the renewable-energy sector. The company’s expansion in Chennai also strengthens Tamil Nadu’s position in the wind-energy ecosystem, supporting the state’s ambitions in renewable-energy manufacturing, exports and high-value engineering services.
The proposed R&D centre is expected to further strengthen Nordex’s capabilities in innovation and advanced engineering while contributing to the development of specialized talent in Tamil Nadu.
