Power transmission is becoming an increasingly important part of the global energy infrastructure build-out, and L&T is expanding its presence across some of the key markets driving that demand.

L&T’s Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) business has secured multiple EPC orders across India, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, covering transmission infrastructure, substations and associated works. The projects will support transmission capacity, grid strengthening and renewable energy evacuation.

The latest power transmission wins give L&T a project footprint spanning both the domestic market and the Gulf. In Saudi Arabia, the company has secured orders in the 380 kV transmission and substation segments, while its UAE order covers the construction of 132/11 kV substations and associated cabling works. In India, L&T has received an order from a leading private-sector developer to establish a transmission system in Visakhapatnam comprising transmission lines and substations.

L&T Expands Its Transmission Presence in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia accounts for the high-voltage component of the latest order wins. L&T’s PT&D business will undertake projects in the 380 kV transmission and substation segments.

The projects are intended to support transmission capacity augmentation and renewable energy evacuation, strengthening Saudi Arabia’s power transmission network while facilitating the integration of renewable energy into the grid.

The Saudi Arabian projects are particularly notable because transmission infrastructure is becoming increasingly important as power systems accommodate larger volumes of renewable generation. Moving electricity from generation sites to demand centres requires sufficient transmission capacity alongside new generation assets.

UAE Order Focuses on Substations and Cabling

In the United Arab Emirates, L&T’s PT&D business has won an order covering the construction of 132/11 kV substations and associated cabling works.

The UAE project adds to L&T’s power infrastructure activity in the region and expands the scope of its latest order wins beyond high-voltage transmission into substation and cabling infrastructure.

Visakhapatnam Adds a Domestic Transmission Project

L&T’s latest international order wins are accompanied by a project in India. The company has secured an order from a leading private-sector developer to establish a transmission system in Visakhapatnam. The project comprises transmission lines and substations.

The Visakhapatnam order adds a domestic dimension to L&T’s latest PT&D announcement, with the company continuing to pursue transmission infrastructure opportunities alongside its international projects.

L&T Highlights Engineering and Global Execution Capabilities

The latest orders also underline L&T’s strategy of combining its engineering capabilities with an expanding international project footprint.

L&T Executive Vice President and Head of PT&D, Joji Sebastian said: “These order wins demonstrate the breadth of PT&D’s engineering and execution capabilities and the ability to deliver complex power infrastructure solutions across geographies. With the growing demand for grid strengthening, renewable energy integration and associated infrastructure, we are leveraging our technology, project execution expertise and global presence to deliver value for our esteemed clients.”

A Closer Look at the Scale of L&T’s Latest Orders

L&T has classified the latest order wins under its “Mega” category. According to the company’s order classification, Mega projects fall in the ₹10,000 crore to ₹15,000 crore range.

However, L&T has not disclosed individual contract values for the projects in the announcement. The ₹10,000-15,000 crore figure therefore represents the company’s Mega order classification range, rather than a specific amount disclosed for each project. This distinction is important when assessing the scale of the announcement.

A Wider Opportunity for Power Transmission

L&T’s latest orders point to a common infrastructure requirement across very different markets: stronger and more capable electricity networks.

In Saudi Arabia, the projects will support transmission capacity and renewable energy evacuation. The UAE order adds substation and cabling infrastructure, while the Visakhapatnam project expands L&T’s transmission activity in the Indian market.

Taken together, the projects show how power transmission is increasingly becoming a critical part of the energy transition. New renewable generation can only deliver its full value when sufficient transmission and grid infrastructure exists to move that electricity to where it is needed.

L&T’s latest Mega-category order wins therefore extend beyond a list of new contracts. They highlight the growing demand for transmission, substations and grid infrastructure as power systems across India and the Gulf prepare for a more complex energy landscape.
