Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited, has expanded its renewable energy portfolio with the commissioning of the 100.8 MW Jewali Wind Project in Maharashtra’s Dharashiv district. The project marks another milestone in the company’s clean energy expansion strategy and is expected to support Tata Power Mumbai Distribution in meeting its Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) requirements through the supply of clean electricity.

The newly commissioned wind farm has an installed capacity of 100.8 MW and is designed to generate approximately 299 million units (kWh) of renewable electricity every year. The clean power produced by the project will contribute to a more sustainable electricity mix while helping reduce dependence on conventional energy sources.

Project Highlights

  • Project: Jewali Wind Project
  • Location: Dharashiv district, Maharashtra
  • Installed Capacity: 100.8 MW
  • Wind Turbines: 28 SG 3.6-145 Wind Turbine Generators
  • Annual Power Generation: Approximately 299 million units (kWh)
  • Estimated Annual CO₂ Reduction: Around 245 million kg
  • Power Offtake: Tata Power Mumbai Distribution

The Jewali Wind Project is equipped with 28 SG 3.6-145 horizontal-axis wind turbine generators, incorporating advanced wind energy technology to optimize electricity generation. Once fully operational, the facility is expected to produce enough renewable electricity to significantly contribute towards Tata Power Mumbai Distribution’s renewable energy procurement while supporting India’s clean energy goals.

Apart from increasing renewable power generation, the project is projected to offset nearly 245 million kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions every year, based on an estimated reduction of 0.82 kg of CO₂ per unit of electricity generated. The emissions savings reinforce the environmental benefits of utility-scale wind projects in reducing the carbon footprint of electricity generation.

Strengthening Tata Power Renewable’s Wind Portfolio

With the commissioning of the Jewali Wind Project, Tata Power Renewable Energy’s total wind energy portfolio has now crossed 3.9 GW. More than 1.3 GW of this capacity is already operational, while the remaining projects are under various stages of development across Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

The addition of the project also increases TPREL’s overall renewable utility portfolio to 11.6 GW. Of this, 6.7 GW is operational, comprising 5.4 GW of solar capacity and 1.3 GW of wind capacity, while another 4.9 GW is under implementation. The under-construction portfolio includes approximately 2.1 GW of solar projects, 2.6 GW of wind projects, and 0.2 GW of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), which are scheduled to be commissioned in phases over the next 6–24 months.

The latest commissioning also aligns with Tata Power’s long-term ambition of achieving 100% clean energy generation by 2045, further reinforcing its commitment to expanding renewable energy infrastructure across India.

Why the Jewali Wind Project Matters

India continues to accelerate the deployment of utility-scale renewable energy projects to meet rising electricity demand while reducing carbon emissions. Wind energy remains a key component of the country’s clean energy strategy, complementing the rapid growth of solar power and battery storage. Projects such as the Jewali Wind Project contribute to grid diversification, improve renewable energy availability and support utilities in meeting Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) targets.

As renewable energy investments continue to gather pace, large-scale wind developments like Jewali are expected to play an increasingly important role in strengthening India’s transition towards a low-carbon and sustainable energy future.
