Bengaluru-based electric aviation company Sarla Aviation is using Siemens Xcelerator software to support the development of its next-generation electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft as it works towards its urban air mobility plans.

Sarla Aviation is developing an electric air mobility platform aimed at making aerial transportation more accessible for urban commuters. The company plans to begin operations in Bengaluru by 2028, according to Siemens.

To support its aircraft development programme, Sarla Aviation has adopted an integrated digital environment based on the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio. The setup connects product design, simulation and lifecycle management, allowing engineering teams to work with data across different stages of aircraft development.

“Our ambition is to make electric air mobility accessible at scale while maintaining the highest standards of safety and performance,” said Rakesh Gaonkar, Co-Founder & CTO, Sarla Aviation. “Working with Siemens and its integrated digital technologies supports our ability to innovate faster and move closer to delivering reliable and sustainable urban air transport.”

Sarla Aviation is using several Siemens software solutions across its aircraft development activities. These include Designcenter for product engineering, Simcenter for simulation and performance validation, and Capital for electrical system design.

The company is also using Polarion for application development and to address the development and certification requirements associated with eVTOL aircraft, including DO-178C compliance. Teamcenter provides the digital backbone for product data management, collaboration and traceability across design, simulation and manufacturing.
