NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL) has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) for the development of a 900 MW solar power project in Gujarat, marking another significant milestone in the company’s renewable energy expansion journey.

According to the company’s announcement, the project was awarded through a tariff-based competitive bidding process. Once commissioned, the electricity generated from the solar power project will be procured by GUVNL, Gujarat’s state-owned power utility, under the terms of the award.

The latest development reinforces NIRL’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy portfolio while supporting India’s transition towards cleaner and more sustainable sources of electricity. Large-scale solar projects continue to play a crucial role in meeting the country’s rising energy demand and reducing dependence on conventional fossil fuel-based power generation.

The 900 MW project is expected to contribute to Gujarat’s growing renewable energy capacity. The state has emerged as one of India’s leading destinations for solar energy investments, supported by favorable policies, abundant solar resources and continued infrastructure development. Utility-scale solar projects such as this are considered essential for strengthening grid reliability and accelerating the adoption of renewable energy across the country.

The award also reflects the increasing use of competitive bidding mechanisms for allocating large renewable energy projects. Such transparent procurement processes are designed to encourage efficiency, attract investment and deliver competitively priced clean energy to electricity distribution companies and consumers.

For NIRL, securing the Letter of Intent represents another important step in expanding its presence in India’s rapidly evolving renewable energy sector. The company continues to focus on developing utility-scale clean energy projects that align with the nation’s long-term sustainability and energy security objectives.
