Oman is set to significantly strengthen its electricity generation capacity as the country continues to invest in reliable and efficient power infrastructure to meet rising energy demand. Supporting this effort, Siemens Energy will supply advanced power generation technology and long-term service solutions for two major independent power projects (IPPs) that are expected to increase the Sultanate’s electricity production by nearly 20%.
According to an official announcement by Siemens Energy, the projects, located at Misfah and Duqm, will add approximately 2.6 gigawatts (GW) of new generating capacity to Oman’s national grid. Once operational, the facilities are expected to provide electricity to more than two million people, helping improve grid reliability while supporting the country’s growing residential, commercial and industrial power requirements.
As part of the agreements, Siemens Energy will deliver high-efficiency gas turbines, steam turbines, generators and associated equipment for the combined-cycle power plants. The company will also provide long-term maintenance and service support designed to maximize plant availability, operational efficiency and long-term performance throughout the lifecycle of both facilities.

The new projects represent an important milestone in Oman’s efforts to strengthen its energy infrastructure and modernize its electricity network. By deploying advanced combined-cycle technology with hydrogen co-firing capabilities, the projects are expected to improve operational efficiency while supporting the country’s long-term strategy of building a more resilient and lower-carbon energy system.
During a visit to Siemens Energy’s gas turbine factory in Berlin, H.E. Salim Al Aufi, Oman’s Minister of Energy and Minerals, said, “The Misfah and Duqm projects reflect Oman’s commitment to building a resilient and future-ready energy system.
