NTPC Group has marked another major milestone in India’s power and storage ecosystem after subsidiary THDC India Limited declared the commercial operation date (COD) of the fourth 250 MW unit of the Tehri Pumped Storage Project (PSP). The unit became commercially operational from 00:00 hrs on April 12, 2026, according to NTPC’s official exchange filing.
With the commissioning of this final unit, the full 1,000 MW Tehri PSP (4×250 MW) is now operational. This has taken NTPC Group’s total installed capacity to 89,378 MW, while the company’s commercial capacity now stands at 88,298 MW.

The development is significant because pumped storage plants play a critical role in balancing renewable power generation, especially as India adds more solar and wind capacity.
