Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), India’s largest pure-play renewable energy company, added more than 5 GW (5,051 MW) of renewable capacity in FY2025-26, taking its total operational portfolio to 19.3 GW. This marks the highest annual greenfield capacity expansion by any company globally, excluding China.

The latest addition comprises 3.4 GW (3,409 MW) of solar, 0.7 GW (686 MW) of wind, and 1 GW (956 MW) of wind-solar hybrid capacity. These installations are expected to offset nearly 10 million tonnes of carbon emissions every year, while AGEL’s total operational capacity of 19.3 GW is projected to deliver an annual carbon offset of 36 million tonnes.

A significant share of this newly commissioned capacity comes from AGEL’s rapidly advancing Khavda renewable energy project in Gujarat, the world’s largest renewable energy plant under development. Spread across 538 square kilometres, roughly five times the size of Paris, the project continues to scale at pace. Of the planned 30GW capacity target by 2029, AGEL has already commissioned 9.4 GW (9,413 MW) at the Khavda site.

“Our addition of over 5 GW of new capacity marks a watershed moment for India’s renewable energy sector, placing the country firmly on the global map of leading the clean energy transition. It marks a significant leap in accelerating the country’s shift to a low-carbon economy and strengthening energy security. Our team’s dedication and hard work have enabled this landmark achievement, and they have consistently proved that ultra large-scale renewable energy deployment is not only possible but also executable. This milestone strengthens our progress towards our target of 50 GW by 2030, while continuing to deliver sustainable and inclusive growth through renewables and energy storage solutions.” said Mr. Sagar Adani, Executive Director, AGEL.

The company has also commissioned an initial 1,376 MWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) at Khavda, marking one of the world’s largest single-location deployments of its kind. Delivered within just eight months of work commencing at the site, the installation is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing grid stability and seamless renewable energy integration.

The Khavda project is built on advanced clean-energy technologies, including bifacial solar modules that generate power from both sides by capturing direct sunlight as well as ground-reflected light. These are complemented by solar trackers that optimize generation throughout the day. The site also features 5.2 MW wind turbines, among the most powerful onshore turbines globally, further strengthening generation efficiency. In addition, the deployment of waterless robotic cleaning systems ensures near-zero water consumption for solar module maintenance while significantly improving operational efficiency at scale.

AGEL continues to strengthen its environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices. The company was ranked first in the Global Top 100 Green Utilities list for 2025 by Energy Intelligence and retained its position as India’s top sustainability performer in the power sector for the second consecutive year by NSE Sustainability Ratings and Analytics.
