Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has dispatched its eighth steam generator for India’s 700 MWe Pressurized Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR) programme, completing the delivery milestone three months ahead of the contractual schedule. The achievement highlights the company’s heavy engineering capabilities and its contribution to India’s expanding nuclear power infrastructure.
Manufactured at L&T’s Heavy Engineering Complex in Hazira, Gujarat, the steam generator is a critical component used in nuclear power plants. The early dispatch underscores the importance of specialized manufacturing, quality assurance and timely execution in supporting large-scale nuclear energy projects.
L&T advances India’s nuclear manufacturing programme
The latest dispatch marks a significant milestone in L&T’s involvement in the 700 MWe PHWR fleet programme. According to the company, all eight steam generators have been dispatched ahead of their respective contractual delivery schedules.
The achievement comes as India seeks to expand its nuclear power capacity to strengthen long-term energy security and support rising electricity demand. Nuclear power is also expected to contribute to the country’s efforts to diversify its energy mix while meeting the requirements of industrial development and energy-intensive infrastructure, including data centres and artificial intelligence facilities.

Hazira facility supports critical nuclear equipment manufacturing
L&T manufactured the steam generator at its Heavy Engineering Complex in Hazira, which supports the production of large and technically demanding equipment for the nuclear power sector.
Steam generators are among the key components of pressurized heavy water reactors. Their manufacture requires specialized engineering, precision fabrication and stringent quality controls to meet the demanding requirements of nuclear applications.
L&T said the early dispatch reflects its continued focus on safety, quality and execution excellence. The company has been associated with India’s nuclear power programme for more than six decades, supplying a range of critical equipment for nuclear facilities.
Its nuclear manufacturing portfolio includes steam generators, reactor headers, pressurisers, end shields, calandrias and components for fast breeder reactors.
