In a flagship move for India’s deep-tech ambitions, Cyient Semiconductors and Azimuth AI have recently unveiled the ARKA GKT-1, the country’s first-generation IP-powered chip designed for high-efficiency edge AI and smart-energy applications. The chip was officially launched at a ceremony attended by Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Electronics & IT, marking a pivotal moment in India’s push toward semiconductor design autonomy and global competitiveness.
What the chip delivers
Developed jointly by Azimuth AI and Cyient Semiconductors, the ARKA GKT-1 integrates multi-core custom computing, advanced analog sensing, memory and intelligent power management into a single energy-efficient system-on-chip (SoC). It’s tailored for sectors such as smart utilities, advanced metering, battery management, smart cities and industrial automation, all of which demand real-time intelligence at the edge while minimizing power consumption.

Why it matters
Domestic IP and design leadership: Shri Krishna Bodanapu, Executive Vice-Chairman & Managing Director of Cyient described the ARKA GKT-1 as “a defining leap in India’s semiconductor journey,” highlighting the chip’s end-to-end design, fab/OSAT management and final delivery.
Evolving value chain: By building the IP and platform in India and targeting global applications, this initiative aligns with the government’s push for “Make in Bharat” and advanced manufacturing.
Edge-AI and energy applications convergence: With rising demand for smarter grids, battery systems, and industrial IoT, the ARKA GKT-1 positions India to participate more deeply in the edge-silicon ecosystem.
What comes next
Commercial production is expected toward the second half of next year, according to Shri Krishna Bodanapu as Indian manufacturing infrastructure scales up.
The platform sets the stage for large-scale deployment, and both firms emphasize that this is just the first generation of a roadmap aimed at enabling high-performance, low-power silicon solutions domestically and globally.
