Premier Energies Limited and RCT India, part of Germany’s RCT Group, have signed a binding term sheet to create a joint venture (JV) for a 12 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing plant in Telangana. This move marks a major diversification for Premier Energies, extending its clean-energy footprint beyond solar manufacturing.

The project will be executed through Premier Energies’ subsidiary, Premier Battery Technologies Pvt. Ltd., with an initial phase of 6 GWh. The facility is designed to meet surging demand for energy storage in commercial, industrial and utility-scale segments across India and overseas markets.

Positioned as an export-oriented hub, the JV will leverage Premier Energies’ manufacturing strengths alongside RCT’s global energy-sector experience, engineering know-how and international supply-chain network. Together, the partners aim to deliver globally competitive BESS solutions for customers in key international markets.

India’s fast-growing renewable-energy capacity is increasing the need for large-scale energy storage to manage intermittency, improve grid flexibility and ensure reliable power supply. In this context, the Premier Energies-RCT India partnership seeks to help build a strong domestic BESS manufacturing ecosystem while establishing an export-focused platform for India’s emerging energy-storage sector.

For Premier Energies, the collaboration marks a strategic milestone in its transition from a leading solar cell and module producer to a diversified clean-energy company with capabilities across multiple segments of the renewable value chain.

Commenting on the partnership, Mr. Chiranjeev Saluja, Managing Director, Premier Energies Limited, said: “Energy storage is the need of the hour for the Indian power system. As India expands its renewable energy generation capacity, energy storage will play a critical role in enabling a reliable, resilient and sustainable power ecosystem. Our long-term partnership with RCT gives us access to this rapidly growing market. Our aim is to build globally competitive BESS products through this manufacturing platform in India, serving both domestic and international markets.”

Mr. Sukumar Reddy Madugula, Managing Director, RCT India, said: “This latest venture to establish a state-of-the-art battery manufacturing facility is a testament to the strength of our relationship with Premier Energies. We are excited to bring our global expertise, engineering capabilities and hands-on execution strengths to India’s rapidly growing BESS sector. Together, we see a strong opportunity to build world-class energy storage capabilities in India and develop the facility as a platform to serve markets globally.”
