Karnataka has launched Tathyakosh.in, a digital platform aimed at making public data from across India easier to discover and assess. The platform has been developed by the ACSEL Technology Forum, a Karnataka government Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence. Hon’ble IT-BT Minister Shri Priyank Kharge unveiled Tathyakosh on Wednesday and the platform is now live.
Tathyakosh brings information about public datasets from multiple sources into a single searchable platform. The initiative is intended to simplify the process of finding relevant datasets, which are otherwise spread across government portals, research institutions and other repositories.
According to information released around the launch, Tathyakosh currently catalogues more than 1.5 million datasets from 458 sources. The platform is designed to help users discover and assess datasets across areas such as healthcare, agriculture, climate, legal research and financial inclusion.

The platform is aimed at a broad group of users, including researchers, startups, developers and policymakers working with public data and data-intensive applications.
Importantly, Tathyakosh functions primarily as a data-discovery layer rather than a repository that stores the underlying datasets. It directs users towards the original sources, allowing them to identify relevant information while retaining the provenance of the data.

The launch comes as access to usable public data becomes increasingly relevant to research, Artificial Intelligence, technology development and data-driven decision-making.
With Tathyakosh now live, Karnataka is seeking to make India’s dispersed public-data landscape easier to navigate through a common discovery platform.
