IIT Delhi is set to expand its advanced computing capabilities with the launch of Param Pragya, an AI-powered high-performance supercomputing facility at the institute’s Sonipat campus.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will participate as the chief guest at IIT Delhi’s 57th Convocation Ceremony on August 8, 2026, and is scheduled to remotely inaugurate the new facility during the event.
Param Pragya is expected to strengthen IIT Delhi’s capabilities in artificial intelligence, data science, advanced computing and interdisciplinary research. The facility will add to the institute’s infrastructure for high-performance computational work and research.
The supercomputing facility is one of the key technology highlights of this year’s convocation, alongside the recognition of academic excellence among IIT Delhi’s graduating students.
Over 3,000 students to receive degrees
More than 3,000 graduating students are set to receive their degrees at the 57th convocation, including 587 Ph.D. scholars.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is also scheduled to present IIT Delhi’s prestigious academic honours to meritorious students. These include the President’s Gold Medal, Director’s Gold Medal, Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal and Perfect Ten Gold Medals.
The ceremony will also mark the graduation of the first batches of students from several programmes, including Bachelor of Design (B.Des.), Executive MBA, M.Sc. in Biological Sciences, and MA in Culture, Society, Thought.

Param Pragya to Support AI and Advanced Research
The establishment of Param Pragya comes as Artificial Intelligence and High-Performance Computing become increasingly important for research involving large-scale data and computational workloads.
At IIT Delhi, the facility is expected to support research and academic activities spanning AI, data science and advanced computing, while also enabling greater collaboration across disciplines.
According to IIT Delhi Director Prof. Rangan Banerjee, the Prime Minister will remotely inaugurate the facility during the convocation.

The event will also be attended by Union Minister of Education Shri Pralhad Joshi and NITI Aayog member Prof. Abhay Karandikar, who are scheduled to grace the occasion as guests of honour.
With the addition of Param Pragya, IIT Delhi is strengthening the computing infrastructure available to its researchers and students, as advanced computing becomes increasingly important to India’s technology and research ecosystem.
