Longsight Custody Suite has become the first facility in England to deploy the Rohde & Schwarz QPS201 security scanner, marking a significant step toward reducing the need for intrusive strip searches. The advanced screening technology is expected to improve operational efficiency, strengthen custody search procedures and support ongoing efforts to enhance the treatment of women and girls within the criminal justice system.
The QPS201 security scanner will serve as an additional screening layer to identify weapons, drugs and other prohibited items that may be concealed under clothing. Using high-resolution millimeter wave technology, the contactless system provides rapid and safe screening while safeguarding privacy. Rather than displaying images of the individual being scanned, the system highlights potential threats on a standardized digital avatar, ensuring a respectful and dignified screening process.
This targeted approach can reduce the need for more intrusive searches, support detainee dignity and improve safety for custody staff. By combining advanced detection, automated analysis and privacy-focused screening, the R&S QPS201 supports more efficient and respectful custody search procedures.
