Vishay Intertechnology has introduced the Vishay Sfernice 40 LHE, a compact, ready-to-deploy linear position sensor engineered for high-accuracy displacement sensing in harsh operating conditions. Built on non-contact Hall effect technology, the device offers linearity down to ±1% across the full stroke, 12 µm resolution, and a lifecycle exceeding 10 million cycles, all within a compact 35 mm × 14.5 mm × 28 mm footprint.
Expanding significantly on earlier generations that supported electrical strokes of up to 10 mm, the 40 LHE now extends displacement measurement to 40 mm. This enhanced range, combined with high precision, makes it suitable for servo-loop motion control and small-displacement monitoring across multiple applications, including bridge and building crackmeters, dendrometers for digital farming, in-line industrial process measurement, robotic grippers, and medical robotic forceps. Additional use cases include throttle and pedal position sensing in e-bikes and motorcycles, railway and marine equipment, and agricultural machinery.
To ensure dependable performance in harsh environments, the sensor features IP67 sealing, resistance to vibration up to 20 g, and shock tolerance up to 50 g. Integrated reverse-voltage (-10 VDC) and overvoltage (+20 VDC) protection helps reduce system cost by removing the need for external protection circuitry. For easier integration into automation and control systems, the device supports both analog ratiometric and PWM digital outputs, along with flexible dual-face mounting options for horizontal or vertical installation.
As a true power-on sensor, the 40 LHE delivers its position instantly at startup without recalibration, homing, or initialization, even after power interruptions. This eliminates the need for battery backup while lowering system complexity and cost. Offered with an optional spring-return mechanism and custom configurations, the RoHS-compliant sensor operates at 5 VDC ±10% with typical current consumption below 16 mA, with a recommended 1 kΩ load resistance for both analog and PWM outputs.
