India’s ambition to become a global semiconductor manufacturing hub has received another boost with the formation of Kurita Membrane India Private Limited, a joint venture between Japan-based Kurita Water Industries Ltd. and Gurugram-headquartered Membrane Group India.

The newly established company will focus on providing advanced water treatment and wastewater recycling solutions for India’s rapidly expanding electronics and semiconductor manufacturing sector. The joint venture combines Kurita’s global expertise in industrial water treatment with Membrane Group India’s engineering, manufacturing, installation, commissioning and lifecycle service capabilities across India.

Meeting the Growing Demand for Semiconductor Water Solutions

Semiconductor manufacturing is among the most water-intensive industrial processes in the world. Fabrication facilities require ultrapure water throughout production to maintain product quality and manufacturing precision. As India attracts significant investments in semiconductor fabrication, assembly, testing and packaging facilities under various government initiatives, demand for sophisticated water treatment infrastructure is expected to rise substantially.

  • Environmental solutions for semiconductor manufacturing

These solutions are designed to help manufacturers improve water efficiency while supporting sustainable production practices.

Strategic Expansion into India

Kurita Water Industries has established a strong presence across Japan, North America, Europe and East Asia by providing water treatment technologies to the electronics industry. The new Indian joint venture represents another important step in the company’s global expansion strategy and aligns with its medium-term business plan focused on strengthening its presence in high-growth semiconductor markets.

For Membrane Group India, the partnership further expands its role in delivering advanced industrial water infrastructure backed by international technology and expertise.

India’s Semiconductor Industry Continues to Grow

India has emerged as one of the world’s fastest-growing semiconductor markets as both domestic and international companies continue investing in manufacturing facilities. Industry estimates indicate that India’s semiconductor market could exceed USD 110 billion by 2030, supported by government incentives, increasing electronics manufacturing and rising domestic demand.

As more semiconductor fabrication and electronics facilities become operational, reliable water treatment and recycling technologies will become increasingly critical to ensuring efficient and sustainable manufacturing operations.

Joint Venture Details

According to the announcement, Kurita Membrane India Private Limited was established on April 11, 2026, with its headquarters in Gurugram, Haryana.

The joint venture is expected to have a planned capital of INR 348.84 million (approximately JPY 600 million) following a capital increase scheduled for August 2026, reflecting both companies’ long-term commitment to supporting India’s rapidly expanding semiconductor ecosystem.

Kurita Water Industries will hold a 51% stake, while Membrane Group India will own the remaining 49%.

The company will provide design, engineering, manufacturing, sales, installation, commissioning and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment systems, ultrapure water systems, water recycling and resource recovery solutions, along with water analysis services for the electronics and semiconductor industries.

The venture also complements Kurita AquaChemie India Private Limited, which began supplying water treatment chemicals in India in 2024, further strengthening Kurita’s presence in the country’s industrial water sector.

With semiconductor manufacturing expected to accelerate over the coming decade, the partnership positions both companies to support one of India’s fastest-growing technology industries through advanced water management and sustainability solutions.
