Avtar Steel Ltd., a manufacturer of stainless-steel long and wire products has initiated the process of going public by filing its Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for an initial public offering (IPO) of up to INR 585 crores.
The proposed Avtar Steel IPO will consist of a fresh issue of equity shares along with an offer for sale (OFS) of 50 lakh shares by promoter Sumit Jindal, according to the company’s draft offer document. The IPO comes as Avtar Steel looks to expand its manufacturing capabilities and strengthen its presence in specialty steel. A significant portion of the fresh issue proceeds is proposed to be directed towards capital expenditure for establishing a new Specialty Steel Melting Division. The proposed facility is expected to manufacture a range of special steel products, including alloy steel, carbon steel and valve steel, besides stainless-steel blocks and blooms.

Avtar Steel IPO: Focus on Specialty Steel Expansion
The planned investment represents a strategic expansion beyond the company’s existing stainless-steel long and wire product portfolio.
Specialty steel is used across industries that require specific performance characteristics, including strength, durability and resistance to demanding operating conditions. By adding melting and production capabilities for a broader range of steel grades, Avtar Steel aims to expand its manufacturing footprint and product mix.
The proposed Specialty Steel Melting Division is therefore a key component of the company’s growth plans and is expected to form an important part of the deployment of funds raised through the fresh issue. The remaining IPO proceeds after meeting the stated requirements and issue-related expenses will be utilized for purposes specified in the company’s final offer documents.

Offer for Sale by Promoter
In addition to the fresh issue, the proposed IPO includes an offer for sale of 50 lakh equity shares by promoter Sumit Jindal.
Under an OFS, the proceeds from the shares sold by the existing shareholder generally accrue to the selling shareholder rather than to the company. The fresh issue, in contrast provides capital directly to Avtar Steel for its stated corporate purposes, including the planned expansion. The final size, pricing and other terms of the public issue will be determined in accordance with the applicable regulatory and market process.

Avtar Steel’s Next Phase of Growth
The proposed IPO marks an important step in Avtar Steel’s plans to scale its operations and broaden its participation in the specialty-steel segment. The company’s proposed investment in additional melting capacity comes at a time when manufacturers across the steel value chain are increasingly focusing on higher-value products and greater product diversification. For Avtar Steel, the planned facility could provide an opportunity to develop capabilities across additional steel categories while supporting the company’s longer-term manufacturing strategy.
The IPO process remains subject to regulatory and other applicable approvals. Additional details on the issue, including the final offer structure, price band, issue timeline and post-offering shareholding pattern are expected to be disclosed in subsequent regulatory filings and the offer documents.
