THDC India Limited, a subsidiary of NTPC Limited has commissioned an 11 MW AC floating solar power plant on the raw water reservoir of the Khurja Super Thermal Power Project (STPP), marking another milestone in the NTPC Group’s renewable energy expansion strategy.
The project achieved its Commercial Operation Date (COD) on July 17, 2026, following successful commissioning and receipt of the necessary approvals. The announcement was made through an official stock exchange filing by NTPC under SEBI’s Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements (LODR).
With the commissioning of the floating solar project, THDC India’s total installed and commercial power generation capacity has increased to 3,918 MW. The latest addition also takes the NTPC Group’s total installed capacity to 90,965 MW, while its commercial capacity has reached 89,885 MW, reinforcing the company’s position as India’s largest integrated power utility.

Floating solar technology is gaining traction across India as developers seek innovative ways to expand renewable energy capacity without acquiring additional land. By installing solar photovoltaic modules on water reservoirs, utilities can optimize available space, reduce water evaporation and improve panel efficiency through the natural cooling effect of water.
Projects such as the Khurja floating solar plant are expected to play an increasingly important role in supporting India’s renewable energy ambitions while enabling efficient utilization of existing infrastructure.
