LS Cable & System has secured an extra-high-voltage power grid project worth approximately KRW 140 billion in Singapore, reinforcing its position in the global transmission infrastructure market as electricity demand continues to rise alongside the growth of artificial intelligence and cloud computing.
Under the contract awarded by Singapore’s power authority, LS Cable will supply 400 kV and 230 kV extra-high-voltage cables to support the city-state’s expanding transmission network.
Singapore has been accelerating investments in high-efficiency and environmentally sustainable data centers to support growing demand for AI and cloud-based services. These developments are increasing pressure on existing power infrastructure and driving the need for grid modernization and transmission network upgrades.
LS Cable and its subsidiary LS Eco Energy have maintained the leading position in Singapore’s extra-high-voltage cable market since 2010. The companies have played a significant role in the development of the country’s national power grid through multiple transmission projects over the years.
The latest project further strengthens LS Cable’s global transmission business, where the company has established expertise in extra-high-voltage and high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cable technologies. The company is the only cable manufacturer in South Korea to commercialize both HVDC and extra-high-voltage submarine cables.
LS Cable has secured HVDC projects worth approximately KRW 2.5 trillion across Europe, demonstrating its competitiveness in large-scale power transmission infrastructure projects. The company has also been expanding into emerging opportunities linked to AI-driven power demand and data center power infrastructure.
“Due to the replacement of aging power grids and electrification stemming from the proliferation of AI, we’re now entering a power infrastructure supercycle that will last more than 15 years,” said a company spokesperson. “Accordingly, it’s becoming more common to sign supply volume contracts several years in advance. Our order backlog currently stands at over KRW 7 trillion, which is an all-time high.”
“Competitiveness in the AI era ultimately comes down to power infrastructure,” said Kim Hyung-won, Head of the Energy/Construction Business Division at LS Cable & System. “Based on our competitiveness in everything from AI data center transmission grids to internal power distribution solutions, LS Cable & System will continue to lead the global market.”
