In a joint effort with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., Rohde & Schwarz has verified Search Space Set Group Switching (SSSG), a 3GPP Release 17 feature that reduces power consumption in 5G NR devices. By optimizing control-channel monitoring, SSSG enhances battery efficiency without compromising scheduling reliability. Its submission for RAN5 verification marks a critical step towards standardized conformance testing and market deployment.
Rohde & Schwarz has completed verification of the first 3GPP NR conformance test case for SSSG. The feature enables devices to switch between search-space groups, streamlining PDCCH monitoring. This targeted approach cuts power usage by limiting monitoring to when it’s truly needed, without sacrificing connectivity.

The companies completed verification of the 3GPP RAN5 NR conformance test case TS 38.523-1 TC 7.1.1.12.5 at an early stage, supporting readiness for the wider 5G conformance ecosystem. The verification used Qualcomm’s X105 5G Modem-RF and Rohde & Schwarz’s R&S TS-PCT protocol conformance test platform, based on the CMX500 5G one-box signaling tester.
As the first to complete all relevant test aspects for this conformance test case, Rohde & Schwarz and Qualcomm Technologies also identified areas where the underlying conformance specification could be improved and supported the submission of a change request to 3GPP RAN5, the group responsible for conformance test specifications. This links practical verification work with ongoing standardization development.
