Ola Electric today announced that its flagship electric motorcycle, the Roadster X+, powered by the company’s indigenously developed 4680 Bharat Cell battery technology, has received official government certification under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR), 1989. This approval clears the way for commercial deliveries of the Roadster X+ in India.
The Roadster X+ is equipped with a 9.1 kWh battery pack built around Ola Electric’s own 4680 Bharat Cells. According to the company, this certification granted by the International Centre for Automotive Technology (iCAT), a government-recognized testing agency makes the motorcycle one of the first in India to be approved with a fully homegrown 4680 cell-based battery system.
The certification process included compliance testing as per regulations issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, including safety, performance, braking, and electromagnetic compatibility assessments. In addition, the 4680 Bharat Cell battery pack has also earned certification under AIS-156 Amendment 4 from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), reflecting adherence to stringent safety and durability standards.
Ola Electric has stated that the Roadster X+ offers an extended range made possible by this advanced battery technology, supporting its broader strategy of vertical integration, developing cells, packs, and complete vehicles in India. This milestone follows Ola’s earlier progress in scaling up deliveries of its 4680 Bharat Cell-powered scooters and signals a significant step forward in the company’s efforts to build advanced electric mobility solutions domestically.
