The Karnisar Solar Power Plant has been developed using nearly 7.75 lakh domestically manufactured Solar PV cells and modules, supporting the Government of India’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat while strengthening domestic manufacturing.

Once fully operational, the 300 MW solar project is expected to generate approximately 75 crore units of clean electricity every year, providing a substantial boost to India’s renewable energy generation. The project is also estimated to reduce nearly 6.4 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, contributing significantly to India’s climate action and environmental sustainability goals.

Apart from delivering clean energy, the project has also supported local socio-economic development by creating direct and indirect employment opportunities for more than 40 local residents, helping generate sustainable livelihoods in rural Rajasthan.

NHPC Limited, a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, continues to diversify its renewable energy portfolio beyond hydropower into solar and wind energy. The company currently has an installed capacity of 9,332.90 MW through its own projects, joint ventures and subsidiaries, further strengthening its role in India’s green energy transition.

The commissioning of the Karnisar Solar Power Plant represents another major step towards increasing renewable energy generation, reducing carbon emissions and supporting India’s vision of becoming a global leader in clean and sustainable energy.
