India’s transition towards electric commercial transportation has taken another significant step with Montra Electric commencing the first phase of deliveries of its Rhino 5538 EV heavy-duty trucks. The deployment marks one of the country’s largest commercial rollouts of electric medium and heavy commercial vehicles (eM&HCVs), highlighting the growing confidence of fleet operators in zero-emission freight solutions.
The first batch of 65 Rhino electric trucks was flagged off from Montra Electric’s manufacturing facility in Manesar, Haryana. The rollout forms part of a phased deployment that will serve industries including cement, steel, mining, infrastructure and construction materials across multiple industrial corridors.
The commercial deployment reflects the rapid evolution of India’s heavy commercial vehicle market, where electric trucks are increasingly moving beyond pilot projects into mainstream logistics operations. Growing demand from fleet operators has prompted Montra Electric to expand production capacity for its Rhino platform while strengthening its manufacturing ecosystem.
Designed for demanding freight applications, the Rhino 5538 EV combines a high-performance electric powertrain with connected telematics and intelligent engineering to improve operational efficiency while lowering total cost of ownership. The vehicle is intended to support long-haul freight movement with reduced emissions and lower operating costs.
The company stated that the current rollout represents the first phase of deliveries, with additional vehicles expected to be deployed over the coming months as customer demand continues to grow.
