India’s clean energy transition is no longer a distant ambition, it is unfolding in real time. From green hydrogen corridors to oil-free manufacturing systems, the country is building the technological backbone required for a lower-carbon industrial future.

At the center of this transformation is Kirloskar Pneumatic Company Limited, a company that has quietly evolved from being a trusted industrial compressor manufacturer to becoming a key enabler in India’s hydrogen and sustainable manufacturing ecosystem.

According to Mr. Anila Kumar Nayak, Manager – Sales at Kirloskar Pneumatic Company Limited, the hydrogen opportunity is not simply about scaling demand, but about building infrastructure that can withstand operational realities.

Building the Backbone of the Hydrogen Economy
When Kirloskar Pneumatic partnered with PDC Machines, the move was strategic. Hydrogen is unforgiving. It demands precision, purity, and safety at extremely high pressures.

“Hydrogen compression is not just about pressure,” Mr. Nayak emphasizes. “It is about purity, containment, and long-term reliability.”

Diaphragm compressors, capable of reaching pressures up to 1,034 bar are critical for hydrogen refuelling stations operating at 350 and 700 bar. These are the standards required for fuel cell electric vehicles. Unlike conventional systems, diaphragm compressors ensure oil-free, contamination-free, and leak-tight compression, a necessity when dealing with hydrogen’s tiny molecular size and high volatility.

By combining global technology with local manufacturing strength and a widespread service network across India, Kirloskar Pneumatic is positioning itself as more than an equipment supplier. It is becoming a systems partner in India’s green hydrogen mission.

Redefining Industrial Compressed Air Purity
Recognizing growing industry demand for ultra-pure compressed air, the company introduced Hydrino, India’s first indigenously manufactured water-injected screw compressor delivering Class 0 air quality as per ISO 8573-1:2010 standards.

The difference lies in what it eliminates. Traditional oil-lubricated systems carry inherent contamination risks. Hydrino removes oil from the compression cycle entirely, even from critical components such as bearings. For industries like food processing, pharmaceuticals, and electronics manufacturing, this is not just a technical upgrade, it is operational assurance.

“Product integrity today defines brand integrity,” Mr. Nayak notes. “Oil-free compression is becoming a baseline expectation, not a premium feature.”

The Economics of Sustainability
Beyond purity and performance lies a more practical question – cost. Water-injected screw technology reduces operating expenditure by eliminating oil procurement, disposal, separation systems, and condensate treatment. With lower maintenance complexity and efficient energy utilization, the lifecycle cost advantages become evident.

Sustainability, in this context, is not merely environmental, it is economic. As Indian manufacturers aim to compete globally, total cost of ownership and compliance with international quality standards are becoming decisive factors. Technologies that combine efficiency, reliability, and environmental responsibility will increasingly define industrial competitiveness.

The Road Ahead: Infrastructure, Intent, and Innovation
India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission has created policy momentum, but infrastructure development will require coordinated industrial participation.

Hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and refuelling infrastructure must scale simultaneously. High-pressure compression technologies will play a silent but critical role in enabling this ecosystem. For Kirloskar Pneumatic, the focus is clear: build indigenous capability, strengthen technological partnerships, and deliver solutions that align with India’s sustainability roadmap.

Clean energy requires clean engineering. And clean engineering demands precision under pressure. As the hydrogen economy takes shape and sustainable manufacturing becomes non-negotiable, companies that anticipate infrastructure needs rather than react to them will define the next chapter of industrial growth in India.

It seems Kirloskar Pneumatic appears ready for that chapter.
