Coal India Limited has secured a significant contract to develop a battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Odisha, marking a strategic step in its diversification beyond coal-based operations. The project, valued at approximately ₹400 crores has been awarded by GRIDCO (Grid Corporation of Odisha) and reflects growing momentum in India’s energy storage sector.
The proposed system will have a capacity of 320 MWh, designed to deliver 80 MW of power for up to 4 hours.
