ABB E-mobility has introduced the OM X-Series, a new distributed EV charging platform designed for high-duty-cycle and megawatt-scale charging applications, targeting transit depots, logistics hubs, and public charging corridors. The company said the platform is engineered to support large-scale commercial EV operations where sustained charging performance and operational efficiency are critical.
According to the company, the OM X-Series can scale from 800 kW to more than 10 MW across over 100 charging points through a coordinated site-level charging architecture. ABB stated that the system is designed to replace isolated charging clusters with an integrated infrastructure model capable of dynamically distributing power across charging sites.
The platform incorporates an end-to-end liquid-cooled power path comprising integrated cooling units, liquid-cooled power modules, and liquid-cooled charging cables. ABB said the system delivers over 98 percent conversion efficiency during continuous-duty operations and is designed to support sustained high-utilization charging environments.
The company also noted that the architecture enables direct battery energy storage integration through a site-level DC bus, which ABB claims can improve round-trip efficiency compared with conventional AC-coupled systems. The system is additionally designed to support future vehicle-to-grid energy flow capabilities in line with evolving regulatory frameworks.
ABB said the initial OM X-Series configuration consists of two 800 kW cabinets connected through a DC bus and can support up to 24 charge outputs. The company added that the architecture is designed for future expansion toward multi-megawatt charging operations without requiring major infrastructure redesign.
Commenting on the launch, Michael Halbherr, Chief Executive Officer of ABB E-mobility said: “Charging is moving toward mission profiles where systems must operate under sustained load for years, not just peak moments.” “At that level of utilization, thermal stability and energy efficiency are not specifications; they are the economics. The X-Series is built for that standard from the architecture up, he added,
