Transformers and Rectifiers (India) Limited (TARIL) has announced a major manufacturing expansion with a ₹1,250 crore investment in three greenfield plants at its Chiyada manufacturing complex in Gujarat. The TARIL investment will focus on manufacturing critical transformer components, strengthening domestic production capabilities and supporting India’s expanding power transmission infrastructure.

The new facilities will manufacture bushings, pressboard and insulation materials, and continuously transposed conductors (CTC). These components play an important role in high-voltage transformer manufacturing and are essential to the development of reliable power transmission networks.

Three Plants to Manufacture Critical Transformer Components

The planned manufacturing facilities will focus on three key product categories required by the power equipment industry.

The bushing plant will manufacture Oil Impregnated Paper (OIP), Resin Impregnated Paper (RIP) and Resin Impregnated Fibre (RIF) bushings rated up to 800 kV. The other facilities will produce pressboard and insulation materials, along with continuously transposed conductors used in transformer manufacturing.

By bringing the production of these components under its broader manufacturing ecosystem, TARIL aims to improve quality control, operational efficiency and supply-chain resilience. The investment is also intended to reduce import dependence by increasing the domestic availability of critical power equipment components.

TARIL Targets ₹2,000 Crore in Annual Revenue Potential

The three facilities will operate under a wholly owned consolidated ancillary subsidiary of TARIL, enabling the company to maintain control over manufacturing quality, technology, procurement and strategic direction.

Construction of the facilities commenced in December 2025, with commercial operations expected to begin in Q1 FY2027-28.

Once fully operational, the plants are expected to have an annual revenue potential of approximately ₹2,000 crore and create more than 1,000 direct employment opportunities across engineering, manufacturing, operations, quality assurance and research and development.

Strengthening India’s Power Infrastructure Ecosystem

India’s growing electricity demand, renewable energy integration and transmission network expansion are increasing the need for reliable power equipment and critical transformer components.

TARIL’s investment is aimed at strengthening its vertically integrated manufacturing capabilities while supporting the country’s broader efforts to develop a resilient and self-reliant domestic power equipment ecosystem.

Commenting on the investment, Jitendra Mamtora, Chairman of Transformers and Rectifiers (India) Limited said that India’s ambition to become a developed nation by 2047 would require a robust and future-ready power infrastructure ecosystem. He highlighted the importance of strengthening domestic manufacturing, reducing import dependence and supporting the country’s expanding transmission and renewable energy requirements.

Satyen Mamtora, Managing Director and CEO of TARIL described the investment as a strategic move towards deeper vertical integration. He noted that in-house manufacturing of bushings, pressboard and insulation materials, and CTC would provide greater control over quality, lead times and operational efficiency while improving supply-chain resilience.

Supporting Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat

The planned facilities are expected to expand TARIL’s manufacturing capabilities and reinforce India’s ability to produce critical power equipment components domestically.

The investment also aligns with the Government of India’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, which aim to strengthen indigenous manufacturing capabilities and reduce dependence on imported products.

Through the three planned plants at Chiyada, Gujarat, TARIL is seeking to build a more integrated manufacturing platform to support India’s evolving power infrastructure needs, renewable energy ambitions and long-term energy security.
