India’s push to strengthen its power transmission network has opened a significant opportunity for KEC International Limited, which has won ₹2,872 crore in orders from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL). The order package centered on 765 kV transmission line projects linked to the evacuation of 8.5 GW of renewable energy from Gujarat marks the largest-ever order secured by KEC’s India Transmission and Distribution (T&D) business.
The latest order wins strengthen KEC International’s position in India’s power transmission infrastructure sector amid growing demand for grid expansion to support the country’s renewable energy capacity.
KEC International Secures Record India T&D Order
According to the company, the orders from PGCIL represent the largest-ever order secured by its India T&D business. The projects will involve turnkey execution, covering the design, supply and installation of high-voltage transmission lines.
The 765 kV transmission line projects are associated with evacuating 8.5 GW of renewable energy from Gujarat, highlighting the role of high-capacity transmission infrastructure in connecting renewable energy generation to the wider electricity network.
The order win also reflects the continuing investment in India’s transmission infrastructure as the country works to strengthen grid capacity and integrate growing volumes of renewable power.
KEC International’s Year-to-Date Order Intake Crosses ₹13,500 Crore
Commenting on the development, Mr. Vimal Kejriwal, Managing Director and CEO of KEC International Limited said the company was witnessing strong momentum in its T&D business, supported by a series of significant order wins.
He highlighted that the PGCIL orders included the largest-ever order for KEC’s India T&D business and had substantially expanded its domestic T&D order book.
Further, he noted that the company’s year-to-date order intake had crossed ₹13,500 crore, including ₹9,500 crore from the T&D business.
He expressed confidence in the growth prospects of India’s transmission and distribution market, citing rising energy demand and the country’s continued focus on strengthening transmission infrastructure.
Transmission Infrastructure to Support Renewable Energy Evacuation
As renewable energy capacity expands, transmission infrastructure plays a critical role in moving electricity from generation sites to demand centres. High-voltage transmission lines help facilitate the integration of large-scale renewable energy projects into the national grid.
