Fast Chargers are set to benefit from a strengthened technology partnership between EcoG and Siemens Digital Industries, as the companies combine charging intelligence and industrial automation to support the long-term development of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. Under the expanded cooperation, EcoG has become an official Siemens Product Partner for SIMATIC Automation Systems.

The partnership maintains Siemens’ established SIMATIC automation technology as an integral part of charging systems, while EcoG takes responsibility for system integration and field operations as an independent technology partner. The collaboration aims to help manufacturers and operators modernize charging infrastructure while preparing for evolving technical and regulatory requirements.

Software Upgrades to Support Existing Charging Infrastructure

The collaboration is designed to support the continued development of both existing and new charging systems. According to EcoG, its expanded partnership with Siemens highlights its expertise in system architecture and charging process control. More than 50 manufacturers of DC fast chargers worldwide already rely on the two companies’ technologies.

Upgrading to the EcoG operating system is intended to help manufacturers and operators extend the long-term usability of their charging infrastructure. The approach enables ongoing software updates while retaining the established SIMATIC architecture, potentially reducing the need to redevelop entire charging systems.

The companies are also addressing emerging requirements in charging technology, including the Cyber Resilience Act and ISO 15118-20. The system supports Plug & Charge functionality in its common variants, as well as the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) for heavy-duty vehicles. It also enables billing compliant with Germany’s calibration law, known as Eichrecht.

Remote diagnostics and anomaly detection capabilities are designed to identify potential faults earlier, helping reduce downtime and the need for on-site service visits.

EcoG Highlights Software-Led Modernization

Jörg Heuer, CEO and Co-Founder of EcoG said the partnership extends beyond a conventional technology collaboration, providing a foundation for updating a large portfolio of charging systems through software.

Heuer explained that manufacturers can bring existing chargers up to date without having to redevelop them, while retaining the established SIMATIC architecture and replacing the charging module.

René Kuroczka, Product Manager Automation Systems at Siemens Digital Industries, said customers would continue building their charging systems around SIMATIC automation. He added that EcoG would support field integration by combining established industrial automation with a future-ready charging infrastructure ecosystem.

Preparing EV Charging for Future Requirements

The EcoG-Siemens partnership highlights the growing importance of software, connectivity and automation in the evolution of EV charging infrastructure. As charging technology advances, manufacturers and operators face the challenge of keeping existing equipment compatible with new capabilities and changing requirements.

By combining SIMATIC automation with EcoG’s charging software and integration expertise, the companies aim to give charging system manufacturers a pathway to modernize infrastructure while preserving established automation architecture.

The collaboration places software-led upgrades, operational reliability and support for advanced charging standards at the centre of efforts to prepare EV fast charging infrastructure for the next stage of electric mobility.
