Energy in Motion Ltd. (EIM) has inaugurated a new integrated electric truck manufacturing complex at Ambi village in Talegaon, Pune, marking a significant development in its electric mobility operations in Maharashtra. The facility brings together heavy electric commercial vehicle manufacturing, lithium-ion battery pack assembly and an independent battery testing laboratory within a single industrial campus, creating an integrated base for vehicle production and battery technology development.

The inauguration was led by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri Devendra Fadnavis in the presence of Shri Sharadchandra Pawar, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Shri Sunetra Ajit Pawar, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. The new facility is designed to manufacture electric trucks and other heavy commercial vehicles, including tractor-trailers and dumpers, while integrating vehicle assembly and battery-related operations under one roof.

Developed in just over a year following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU), the Industry 4.0-enabled electric truck complex has an initial production capacity of 5,000 vehicles per shift per year, according to the company. The facility represents the first phase of EIM’s planned ₹1,000 crore investment in Maharashtra and is expected to generate more than 2,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities. Additional work opportunities are anticipated across design, research and development (R&D), and information technology (IT).

Alongside its manufacturing expansion, EIM is developing a nationwide network of battery-swapping and charging facilities along major highways, at ports and across industrial hubs. The company says its megawatt-scale infrastructure will support battery swapping for EIM vehicles and other compatible models in less than seven minutes. The network will also provide fast-charging services for vehicles equipped with DC fast-charging sockets compliant with the CCS-2 standard under the applicable BIS framework.

EIM’s technology ecosystem includes partnerships with BAIC Foton Motor for electric heavy commercial vehicles, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) for battery technology, and Shanghai Enneagon Energy Technology Co., Limited for robotic battery-swapping systems. According to the company-provided information, Foton Motor recorded sales exceeding 650,000 units last year, while CATL accounts for approximately 39% of the global battery market. Shanghai Enneagon has reportedly deployed more than 1,600 battery-swapping stations worldwide. These collaborations are intended to support EIM’s capabilities across electric vehicle manufacturing, battery systems and automated swapping infrastructure.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Narendra Murkumbi, Managing Director, EIM Ltd, said: “We are delighted to launch this integrated manufacturing and testing complex in Pune where we will build some of the largest electric vehicles that will ply on India’s roads. This facility was built in record time due to facilitation by Maharashtra govt, full support of all our technology partners, speedy execution by our hosts RMK Spaces and the round-the-clock eƯorts of EIM’s team lead by our Manufacturing head, Shri Mahesh Keskar.

We now focus on building out a nationwide network of megawatt scale charging and battery swapping stations to enable India’s speedy transition from diesel to electric heavy goods transportation.”
