Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district is set to play a larger role in India’s wind energy supply chain as Suzlon’s wind expansion brings together a new 1,325 MW project pipeline and increased rotor-blade manufacturing capacity.
As part of this wind expansion, the company is developing projects in the Rayadurgam constituency with an estimated investment of ₹10,000 crores, while adding new S144 rotor-blade manufacturing lines at Hulikera village in Kanekal mandal. The project was inaugurated by Hon’ble Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Shri Nara Lokesh on August 25, 2026.
The latest announcement places Anantapur at the intersection of two major clean energy activities: wind power generation and the manufacture of large turbine components.
New Wind Capacity Planned For Rayadurgam
Suzlon’s 1,325 MW wind energy initiative is located in Govindawada in the Rayadurgam constituency.
Hon’ble Minister Shri Nara Lokesh referred to the wider development as a ₹10,500 crore investment and estimated nearly 1,600 direct and indirect jobs in the state. The project is part of Andhra Pradesh’s broader effort to attract renewable energy investment, expand manufacturing and create skilled employment outside the state’s largest urban centres.

Why The Blade Lines Matter
The manufacturing expansion is important because wind farms require a reliable supply of turbine components, including rotor blades. Producing these components closer to project locations can support logistics, supplier development, engineering services and maintenance activity.
Suzlon’s new S144 lines are being added to its existing manufacturing base in Anantapur. The company’s local operations include a rotor-blade facility at Ippuru in Kuderu mandal.
Suzlon’s latest move will expand its existing manufacturing presence in Anantapur, where the company is adding two S144 rotor-blade production lines. The expansion strengthens the connection between wind project development and domestic turbine component manufacturing in Andhra Pradesh.
It also signals the growing importance of Anantapur as a manufacturing and services base for the wind sector.
Suzlon’s Larger Andhra Pradesh Plans
Suzlon has outlined plans to develop an additional 5,000 MW of renewable-energy projects in the state by 2030. The company began operations in Andhra Pradesh in 2004 and has since developed a long-term presence in the state. Its local ecosystem supports project execution, blade manufacturing, technical services and workforce development.
For Andhra Pradesh, this creates the possibility of building a more integrated clean energy cluster rather than attracting only individual wind farms.
Green Skills Programme Targets 12,000 Trainees
The expansion is also linked to workforce development. Suzlon and the Andhra Pradesh government are running green-energy learning centres in Uravakonda and Vijayawada, with a target of training 12,000 young professionals. Women account for 25% of the trainees.
Such programmes could help address the need for technicians, blade-manufacturing workers, project supervisors, electrical specialists and operations personnel as renewable-energy capacity expands.
Anantapur’s Role In India’s Wind Energy Transition
Anantapur has favourable conditions for renewable energy development, but the region’s significance is increasingly tied to manufacturing as well as power generation. Suzlon’s investment brings together three parts of the clean energy value chain:
- Wind-power project development;
- Manufacturing of rotor blades and other turbine components;
- Training for the workforce required to build and operate renewable energy assets.
This combination can create wider economic benefits than a standalone generation project. Local companies may find opportunities in transport, civil works, fabrication, equipment servicing, testing, warehousing and technical support.
What Happens Next
The next milestones will be the construction and commissioning schedule for the 1,325 MW wind projects, the operating capacity of the new S144 production lines and the final employment contribution.
Suzlon’s latest Andhra Pradesh move also comes as the company expands its national manufacturing and project pipeline. In its official FY27 first-quarter update, Suzlon reported record quarterly deliveries of 506 MW and a cumulative order book of approximately 6.1 GW.
If the projects in Andhra Pradesh progress as planned, Anantapur could become an important base for both wind energy generation and domestic turbine component manufacturing.
