NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL) and the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA) have signed a Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) to develop 1,000 MW of renewable energy projects across Odisha, marking a significant step in the state’s clean energy transition efforts.
The agreement was signed on June 23, 2026, at Kharavela Bhavan in Bhubaneswar in the presence of Odisha Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo. The development was also highlighted by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) Odisha, which described the initiative as part of the state’s efforts to build a sustainable and future-ready energy ecosystem.
According to information shared by government officials, the proposed partnership will focus on developing renewable energy projects across Odisha, including wind power and floating solar installations. The initiative is expected to strengthen the state’s energy security, support industrial development, and attract further investments into the renewable energy sector.
The planned portfolio is reported to include large-scale wind energy and floating solar projects, leveraging Odisha’s renewable energy potential. Industry observers view the collaboration as an important milestone in expanding the state’s clean energy infrastructure and diversifying its power generation mix.
NLC India Renewables Limited, the renewable energy arm of NLC India Limited, has been expanding its presence across India’s renewable energy sector through solar, wind, and hybrid energy projects. Through the new joint venture, the company is expected to work with OREDA to identify and develop renewable energy opportunities aligned with Odisha’s long-term sustainability and energy goals.
The agreement comes at a time when states across India are accelerating investments in renewable energy capacity to meet growing electricity demand while supporting national decarbonization and energy transition objectives. Wind power, floating solar projects, and other clean energy technologies are increasingly being viewed as critical components of future energy systems.
Officials said the partnership is expected to contribute to Odisha’s vision of becoming a leading destination for clean energy investments while supporting economic growth and infrastructure development. Further details regarding project locations, implementation timelines, investment commitments, and execution plans are expected to emerge as the joint venture progresses.
The announcement underscores Odisha’s continued focus on expanding renewable energy deployment and creating an enabling environment for sustainable energy development across the state.
