SPML Infra has secured a ₹1,128 crore Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project from NTPC, according to regulatory filings submitted with the National Stock Exchange (NSE). The project involves the development of a 1GWh-scale energy storage system in India, adding to SPML Infra’s growing portfolio in the infrastructure and clean energy sector.
Battery energy storage systems are playing an increasingly important role in modern power infrastructure by enabling better integration of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind, while improving grid stability and reliability. Large-scale storage deployment is expected to play a key role in strengthening India’s energy transition and enhancing overall power system flexibility.

SPML Infra, an infrastructure engineering and construction company, operates across multiple segments including water management, power infrastructure, and civil engineering projects. The latest order marks a further step in its participation in emerging energy storage and renewable-linked infrastructure opportunities.
According to the NSE filing, the project has been awarded by NTPC, one of India’s largest power generation companies. While the disclosure confirms the contract value and scope, further operational and execution details are expected to be shared through subsequent regulatory updates.
Abhinandan Sethi, Managing Director, SPML Infra Limited said, “This order marks a defining moment for SPML Infra, a firm commitment to the large-scale battery energy storage sector. Energy storage will define how India powers its future, and we intend to be architects of that transformation. Partnering with NTPC on this landmark project is both a privilege and a responsibility we embrace fully. We are here to build the grid India needs — flexible, stable, and built for scale.”
The project also reflects SPML Infra’s broader expansion into energy storage infrastructure through its collaboration with technology provider Energy Vault, as the company increases its focus on renewable-linked infrastructure opportunities.
