Hindustan Construction Company Limited (HCC) has secured a ₹524.17 crore contract from NHPC Limited for works at the Salal Power Station in Jammu & Kashmir. The order marks another significant addition to HCC’s long-standing infrastructure portfolio in the region.

Under the 27-month contract, HCC will undertake civil and hydro-mechanical works along with associated ancillary and enabling activities to make the undersluices of the concrete dam at the Salal Power Station fully functional and operational.

The rehabilitation work is expected to support the operational efficiency of the dam, improve sediment management and strengthen its long-term safety and reliability. The Salal Power Station is among NHPC’s key hydroelectric assets in the region.

The latest contract also adds a new chapter to HCC’s nearly four-decade association with Salal. The company was involved in constructing the 690 MW Salal Hydroelectric Project, which was commissioned in 1987.

HCC has also delivered several other major hydroelectric projects across Jammu & Kashmir, including Uri-II (240 MW), Kishanganga (333 MW), Nimoo Bazgo (45 MW) and Chutak (44 MW). Together, these projects represent a combined installed capacity of 1,352 MW, equivalent to approximately 38% of Jammu & Kashmir’s total installed hydropower capacity.

Beyond hydroelectric infrastructure, HCC also built India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge at Anji Khad and executed nearly 32 km of tunnels, about 27% of the total tunnel length for the strategically important Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link project, strengthening connectivity for both civilian and defence movement.
