ABB India has significantly expanded its local manufacturing footprint with the launch of a new production line for variable speed drive (VSD) modules at its Peenya factory in Bengaluru. This expansion increases local drive production capacity by approximately 25 percent, supporting the Indian government’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ initiatives. Equipped with advanced automation and Industry 4.0 technologies, the new line is designed to improve energy efficiency and productivity while cutting lead times by up to 40 percent.
The facility manufactures high-power drives catering to a wide range of industries, including buildings, data centers, water treatment, cement, and metals. Through localized production, ABB India aims to offer customers faster delivery, greater customization, and enhanced service capabilities. Integrated robotics and digital monitoring systems ensure precise, high-quality production aligned with modern manufacturing standards.

This ergonomically designed line has integrated robotics to automate the production of a key component that enable ABB drives to deliver high energy efficiency and reliability. The new line features a combination of advanced robotics and digital production monitoring technology, handling production of large batches with speed and precision and providing real-time visibility of operations. Aligning with Industry 4.0 standards, advanced sensor-based tools monitor and enable accurate placement of drive components, ensuring consistently high quality of drives. ABB’s drives factory has also deployed robotics to streamline the movement of assembled drives to further improve efficiency, reduce manual handling, and enhance safety.
