The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has extended the deadline for claiming Central Financial Assistance (CFA) under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana to November 30, 2026, giving households additional time to complete rooftop solar installations and submit subsidy claims.
The extension comes as the government pushes to accelerate rooftop solar adoption across India while ensuring that consumers are not penalized for procedural delays beyond their control. Under the scheme, residential consumers can receive subsidies of up to ₹78,000 for installing grid-connected rooftop solar systems.
Deadline Extension Aims to Reduce Bottlenecks
According to the latest operational guidelines issued by MNRE, the earlier deadline for submitting CFA claims has now been pushed to November 30, 2026. This move is expected to benefit households that have already applied but are facing delays in vendor scheduling, installation, or net-meter approval from local distribution companies (DISCOMs).
The Ministry has also been tightening oversight of empaneled vendors to prevent application backlogs. In recent weeks, MNRE advised vendors to align applications with their execution capacity and avoid retaining consumer applications for more than 60 days without valid reasons. It has also deactivated dozens of vendors found to be holding excessive pending applications.

How Households Can Avail the Subsidy
To claim the PM Surya Ghar subsidy, households must:
- Register on the PM Surya Ghar portal and complete the application process
- Install a grid-connected rooftop solar system through an empaneled vendor
- Obtain net-metering approval from the local DISCOM
- Submit the CFA claim on the portal before November 30, 2026
Once the installation is verified and the net meter is installed, the subsidy amount is directly credited to the beneficiary’s bank account.
Push for 75 Lakh Rooftop Solar Households by End-2026
The extension aligns with the Centre’s broader target of bringing rooftop solar installations to 75 lakh households by December 2026 under PM Surya Ghar. Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Shri Pralhad Joshi has previously stated that the scheme aims to reduce electricity bills for residential consumers while advancing India’s clean energy goals.
States have also been rolling out additional measures to boost adoption. Delhi, for instance has recently approved amendments to its solar policy to distribute free 3 kW rooftop solar systems to around 2.3 lakh households, complementing the central subsidy framework.

Energy experts say the extended deadline offers a valuable window for families that were waiting to complete installations before year-end. They recommend that consumers:
- Ensure their vendor is empaneled under PM Surya Ghar
- Complete all documentation, including application, installation, and net-meter formalities
- Submit the CFA claim well before the November 30, 2026 cutoff
With the deadline now extended, more households are expected to come forward to install rooftop solar systems and claim benefits under one of India’s flagship residential solar schemes.
