Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) for the development of the WR-ER Inter-Regional Network Expansion Scheme Part-A, further strengthening its transmission project portfolio and supporting the expansion of India’s power infrastructure.
The project has been awarded through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route and is aimed at enhancing inter-regional electricity transmission capabilities between the Western and Eastern regions of the country.

Project to Strengthen Transmission Connectivity
As part of the scheme, POWERGRID will develop new 765/400kV substations in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. The project also includes the extension of existing substations in Chhattisgarh and West Bengal to improve network capacity and operational flexibility.
In addition, the scheme involves the construction of new 765kV and 400kV transmission lines traversing Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. The planned infrastructure is expected to facilitate efficient power transfer across regions while supporting the growing demand for reliable electricity transmission.
Supporting India’s Expanding Grid Infrastructure
The project is designed to strengthen the national transmission network by improving connectivity between key regions and enabling smoother power flow across state boundaries. Enhanced transmission infrastructure plays a critical role in maintaining grid stability and supporting the integration of additional generation capacity into the electricity system.
With increasing investments in power infrastructure and network modernization, transmission projects such as the WR-ER Inter-Regional Network Expansion Scheme are expected to contribute to the development of a more resilient and efficient electricity grid.
