The Volvo FL medium-duty truck was among the first in Volvo’s lineup to feature a fully electric driveline, a move that quickly gained favour with many transport operators. Its compact size makes it perfectly suited for maneuvering through narrow urban streets and performing door-to-door deliveries, while the electric powertrain ensures quiet operation and completely eliminates tailpipe emissions.

As Volvo continues broadening its electric truck range to serve a wider variety of transport needs, the latest addition, the Volvo FL Electric with a 14-tonne gross combination weight introduces a new entry-level option, balancing payload capacity with optimized battery installation.

“This is a perfect inner-city workhorse with no tailpipe emissions”, says Jan Hjelmgren, Head of Product Management at Volvo Trucks. “We are always there to help our customers find the best electric truck for their business. You should only buy as much battery capacity as you need for the task to maximize the productivity in terms of payload capacity and profitability.”

The new version of Volvo FL Electric comes in several wheelbases, axle configurations, and battery configurations so that each customer can tailor their truck to specific needs.

The shape and installation of the batteries ensure that they do not interfere with any bodybuilding installations on the frame. Further, the new Volvo FL Electric variant is also more agile thanks to the possibility of a vehicle width of down to 2.4 meters.

The new batteries are available in several of Volvo’s electric truck models – all the way from the new 14-tonne FL Electric and the 16- and 18-tonne FL Electric and up to Volvo FE Electric versions with a GCW of up to 26 tonnes.

The electric versions of Volvo’s FL and FE electric truck models have been on the market since 2019 and are sold in multiple markets across Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Australia.

Volvo has eight battery-electric truck models in production, and the company has sold more than 5,000 electric trucks globally.
