India’s renewable energy transition is accelerating, but the real test lies in making clean power reliable, bankable, and grid-ready. As Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) move from pilots to large-scale deployment, a critical question emerges: “Who will make energy storage commercially viable and execution-ready for India?”
In this exclusive conversation with Web News Addiction, Mr. Deep Faldu, Founder and Director, Aurone Energy Pvt. Ltd., discusses how the company is addressing critical gaps in India’s BESS ecosystem, from bankable Tier-1 sourcing and cost clarity to faster execution and grid-aligned engineering, positioning energy storage as a cornerstone of India’s renewable future.
Edited Excerpts Below:
- Why did you start Aurone Energy, and what gap in India’s BESS market are you addressing?
Aurone Energy was founded to address a clear gap in the Indian energy storage market—limited access to Tier-1 BESS solutions at competitive prices, combined with challenges around timelines and bankable execution certainty. While demand for storage is increasing, many customers still face uncertainty about cost clarity and delivery reliability. Our focus is to bridge this gap by delivering bankable BESS solutions with strong engineering support and fast, transparent execution, tailored for Indian grid and project conditions.
- How do you see the role of Battery Energy Storage Systems evolving in India’s renewable energy growth?
Battery Energy Storage Systems will play a foundational role in India’s renewable energy transition. As solar and wind penetration increases, BESS will be essential for grid stability, peak demand management, renewable firming, and reduction of curtailment. We see storage rapidly moving from pilot installations to commercial-scale and grid-scale deployments, and Aurone Energy is focused on making this transition technically reliable and commercially viable for developers and consumers.
- Which BESS application segments is Aurone Energy currently focusing on?
Aurone Energy is currently prioritizing Commercial & Industrial (C&I) applications, renewable integration projects such as solar-plus-storage and wind-plus-storage, and grid-support use cases where storage enhances reliability and power quality. These segments offer clear economics, faster deployment cycles, and strong near-term demand, allowing us to support near-term deployments while building scale responsibly.
- How important is collaboration with Tier-1 suppliers for your BESS projects?
At the current stage of India’s energy storage market, collaboration with Tier-1, globally bankable suppliers is essential to ensure safety, reliability, and long-term performance. The domestic ecosystem for bankable battery cells and core BESS components is still evolving, and large-scale projects, especially those linked to competitive tenders and VGF schemes require proven technologies with established performance records.
Accordingly, we currently work with globally proven suppliers for key components such as battery cells, PCS, and control systems, supported by our system-level engineering and integration expertise to meet performance, safety, and lifecycle requirements.
At the same time, Aurone Energy’s long-term vision is to contribute to building India’s own bankable energy storage ecosystem. As the domestic manufacturing landscape matures, we intend to progressively support and integrate India-based suppliers, helping position India as a credible and competitive hub for advanced BESS technologies in the years ahead.
- What makes Aurone Energy cost-competitive in today’s BESS market?
Our cost competitiveness comes from direct sourcing, optimized system design, and efficient project execution, not from compromising on quality. By aligning technical configurations closely with project requirements and managing procurement effectively, we are able to offer some of the most competitive BESS pricing in India, helping customers optimize capex and strengthen overall project IRRs.
- Could you share your plans regarding BESS assembly in India and how this will support faster execution in the future?
BESS assembly in India is a planned next phase of Aurone Energy’s growth. We are targeting the setup of modular BESS assembly capabilities by the end of this year, initially focused on containerized and C&I systems. Once operational, this is expected to support shorter delivery timelines, better system customization, and improved cost efficiency, particularly benefiting tender bidders under VGF schemes and other competitive projects by strengthening project IRRs, while aligning with India’s domestic manufacturing and sustainability objectives.
- How does Aurone Energy differentiate itself in a competitive BESS market?
Aurone Energy differentiates itself through execution speed, engineering clarity, and a customer-centric approach. We design BESS solutions around actual load profiles, tariff structures, and project constraints, and support them with transparent communication and dependable delivery. This allows us to build long-term partnerships rather than one-time transactions.
