Rohde & Schwarz, a global leader in test and measurement solutions, has opened a new, larger office in Osaki, Tokyo, strengthening its automotive testing capabilities and support for Japan’s automotive industry. The new location replaces the company’s former Shinjuku office and features significantly enhanced facilities for service, repair, calibration, and engineering support of test equipment, along with expanded areas for customer events and demonstrations.
“We are very proud of our new facility in Osaki, and we invite the Japanese automotive community to make the most of this resource and the talented staff who work here,” said Noashi Saito, General Manager of Rohde & Schwarz Japan.
Advancing EMC Testing with AIP Automotive
To address the changing electromagnetic emission profiles of modern vehicles, especially EVs, Rohde & Schwarz collaborates with AIP Automotive to conduct electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) tests under dynamic driving conditions. Their joint solution integrates R&S EMC receivers, automation software, and AIP’s EMC Chassis Dynamometer, allowing manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers to evaluate EMC performance under realistic scenarios.
The Osaki facility features a dedicated calibration area for EMC equipment and benefits from its proximity to AIP’s new office, enabling fast service turnaround times. AIP has also integrated R&S radar target simulators to enable vehicle-in-the-loop radar testing within a controlled environment.
Strengthening In-Vehicle Network Compliance with GRL and Analog Devices
Rohde & Schwarz continues to expand its partnerships with Granite River Labs (GRL) and Analog Devices (ADI) to advance in-vehicle network compliance testing in Japan. Supported by R&S Japan’s new facilities and advanced oscilloscopes and vector network analyzers, the collaboration enhances testing efficiency for standards such as multigigabit Ethernet and Automotive SerDes Alliance (ASA).
This partnership also accelerates adoption of OpenGMSL, an emerging industry standard promoted through the OpenGMSL Association, with tailored solutions for the Japanese market.
Enhancing Autonomous Driving Radar Testing with IPG Automotive
Through collaboration with IPG Automotive, a leader in virtual test driving, Rohde & Schwarz integrates Automotive Radar Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing into development labs. Combining IPG’s CarMaker simulation software with R&S radar test systems such as the AREG800A, QAT100, and RadEsT, the partnership allows automakers to simulate ADAS and Euro NCAP scenarios safely and efficiently.
Both companies demonstrate these joint HIL systems at the new Osaki office, incorporating local traffic simulations for Japan.
Expanding Automotive NTN Testing with MediaTek
In collaboration with MediaTek, Rohde & Schwarz extends its non-terrestrial network (NTN) testing initiatives to Japan. Using the R&S CMX500 radiocommunication tester, engineers can test NR-NTN, NB-NTN, and Direct-to-Cell (D2C) technologies across multiple frequency bands and orbits.
This expansion supports Japan-specific NTN projects and enables local automakers to validate NTN vehicle connectivity, from chipsets and modules to antennas and complete vehicles.
Driving Innovation for Japan’s Automotive Ecosystem
With its expanded office in Osaki, Rohde & Schwarz provides Japan’s automotive community with faster access to local expertise, state-of-the-art equipment, and global collaboration networks, reinforcing its role as a trusted partner in the evolution of next-generation mobility.
