Rohde & Schwarz, a leader in wireless communication test and measurement solutions, has announced that MediaTek is using the CMP180 radio communication tester to validate TC-DFT-s-OFDM, a promising waveform technology for 6G networks. This partnership highlights the importance of advanced testing equipment in creating the foundational technologies for next-generation wireless communication.
TC-DFT-s-OFDM (Trellis Coded Discrete Fourier Transform spread Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) is under consideration by 3GPP as a potential 6G standard. MediaTek’s research indicates that this waveform offers superior Maximum Coupling Loss (MCL) performance across different modulation schemes, including advanced ones like 16QAM.
The key advantages of MediaTek’s proposed 6G waveform include better cell coverage by lowering power back-off requirements and enhanced power efficiency through optimized power amplifier techniques such as Average Power Tracking (APT). TC-DFT-s-OFDM allows transmission power up to 4 dB higher than traditional modulation methods while maintaining low interference, potentially increasing coverage area by up to 50%.
