JA Solar, a global leader in green energy solutions, has signed a module supply agreement with Larsen & Toubro (L&T), the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for the Samarkand 1 and 2 Solar Photovoltaic Power Plants in Uzbekistan. Under this contract, JA Solar will provide all the photovoltaic modules for the two large-scale projects, strengthening its role as a major contributor to Central Asia’s clean energy transition.
Located near the historic city of Samarkand, the twin projects, Samarkand 1 and 2 are being developed by ACWA Power and will have a combined capacity of 1.2 GW. Once operational, they are expected to generate enough renewable electricity to power hundreds of thousands of households while reducing over one million tons of CO₂ emissions annually. The initiative supports Uzbekistan’s target of deriving 25 percent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
The partnership between ACWA Power, L&T, and JA Solar underscores a shared commitment to building bankable, high-performance solar assets in emerging markets. Beyond delivering clean power, the projects are anticipated to create local jobs, enhance infrastructure, and improve grid stability across the region.
“We are honored to support these strategic projects alongside world-class partners,” said Mr. Aiqing Yang, Executive President of JA Solar. “Our high-efficiency, high-reliability modules are engineered to maximize energy yield in diverse environments. This agreement underscores the confidence our partners place in JA Solar’s technology and execution capabilities.”
JA Solar will continue to work closely with international developers and EPCs to deliver reliable PV solutions that meet the performance, durability, and delivery standards required for large-scale deployment. The company is committed to enabling sustainable growth across Central Asia and other high-potential markets.
