Seco has unveiled TP3502, a new CVD-coated Duratomic turning grade developed to set a higher standard for machining ISO P steel applications. The new grade combines advanced material adaptation with significant enhancements in insert manufacturing, resulting in a tooling solution designed to deliver consistent and predictable tool life across demanding machining conditions. TP3502 is particularly engineered to maintain stability when operations involve interrupted cuts and changing cutting conditions.
A new benchmark for predictable steel turning
TP3502 is designed for steel machining applications where variations in material hardness, complex component geometries and interrupted cuts can present demanding machining challenges. Positioned as a versatile ISO P grade, it combines wear resistance and toughness to support consistent performance across a broad range of steel-turning operations.
Classified within the ISO P35 range, TP3502 is designed to compete with established CVD grades used in general steel turning. Its updated coating and edge preparation are engineered to promote controlled wear and extend tool life compared with earlier-generation grades. The new grade is intended to support higher cutting speeds while maintaining process stability and consistent component quality.

Designed for interrupted and mixed cutting conditions
TP3502 is a general-purpose grade developed for a wide range of steel-turning applications, including low- and high-alloy steels, selected stainless steels, ductile irons and powder-metal components. These machining operations can involve interrupted cuts and changing conditions, making a combination of toughness, stability and reliable performance essential.

The grade also incorporates features aimed at supporting digitalization and sustainability initiatives. Chrome used edge detection is intended to help operators make full use of each cutting edge, while a Data Matrix Code enables traceability and digital tracking. TP3502 is produced using recycled powders and is included in the buy-back recycling program, supporting waste reduction and sustainability reporting.
