Assam Power Generation Company Limited (APGCL) has invited bids to appoint a consultant for preparing the Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) and Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a proposed 25 MW/100 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at its Namrup Solar PV Project in Assam. According to the tender, the selected consultant will assess the technical, financial and commercial viability of the proposed energy storage facility and prepare comprehensive project reports to support its future implementation.

The tender (Tender ID: 2026_APGCL_52551_1) has been issued by APGCL, with bid submissions scheduled to close on July 13, 2026, at 12:00 PM. Interested bidders are required to submit an Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) of ₹25,000, while no exemption has been specified.

Supporting Renewable Energy Integration

The proposed Battery Energy Storage System is expected to complement the existing Namrup Solar PV Project by storing excess solar energy generated during peak sunshine hours and supplying electricity when solar generation declines or demand increases. Such systems play an increasingly important role in improving grid stability, managing renewable energy variability, and enhancing power reliability.

With a planned capacity of 25 MW/100 MWh, the project would be capable of delivering 25 MW of power continuously for up to 4 hours, making it suitable for peak demand support, renewable energy integration, and grid balancing applications.

Scope of Consultancy

Under the tender, the appointed consultant will be responsible for preparing both the Pre-Feasibility Report and the Detailed Project Report, covering technical assessments, project design, financial analysis, implementation planning, and other studies required before project execution. The consultancy assignment will serve as a key step towards determining the project’s viability and supporting future investment decisions.

Growing Focus on Energy Storage

Battery Energy Storage Systems are becoming an increasingly important component of India’s energy transition as utilities seek to integrate larger volumes of renewable energy into the electricity grid. Energy storage enables utilities to improve power system flexibility, reduce renewable energy curtailment, and strengthen grid resilience.

Several state utilities and renewable energy developers across India have recently announced BESS projects to support solar and wind generation while meeting growing electricity demand.
