Vishay Intertechnology has introduced four new series of unidirectional and bidirectional 3000 W PAR and TRANSZORB surface-mount transient voltage suppressors (TVS) featuring the newly developed DFN6546A package with wettable flanks. Designed for automotive and industrial applications, the newly launched Automotive Grade T3KNxxA and T3KNxxCA series are AEC-Q101 qualified and support high-temperature operation up to +185 °C. Meanwhile, the 3KDFNxxA and 3KDFNxxCA series are tailored for industrial environments and comply with the LL15i Industrial Reliability Qualification standard.

Part of Vishay’s Power DFN package family, the compact DFN6546A package measures 6.5 mm x 4.6 mm and features an ultra-low typical profile height of just 0.88 mm, enabling more efficient PCB space utilization. The advanced package structure and die placement technology increase copper content and support larger chip sizes, resulting in improved performance. The new devices are footprint-compatible with the SMPC (TO-277A) package while delivering twice the power dissipation with a 20% lower profile. Compared to conventional SMC (DO-214AB) solutions, the devices provide equivalent power dissipation while reducing overall package volume by 76%.

The newly introduced TVS devices are engineered to safeguard sensitive electronic systems against voltage transients caused by inductive load switching and lightning events. Automotive applications for the AEC-Q101 qualified T3KNxxA and T3KNxxCA PAR series include ADAS, lidar, cameras, infotainment and sensor systems, DC/DC converters, battery management systems (BMS), onboard chargers, electric power steering (EPS), traction inverters, central control units, and electric motor drives.

For industrial applications, the 3KDFNxxA and 3KDFNxxCA TRANSZORB series are designed for use in robot control boards, process and flow control instrumentation, industrial automation systems, generator start controllers, 60 kW energy storage systems, server power modules, consumer entertainment electronics, telecom infrastructure, and medical equipment.

For these applications, the newly introduced diodes deliver strong clamping performance, with maximum clamping voltages ranging from 16.7 V to 33.2 V for the T3KNxxA and 3KDFNxxA series, and from 16.7 V up to 137 V for the T3KNxxCA and 3KDFNxxCA variants. The DFN6546A package incorporates wettable flank technology, enabling automatic optical inspection (AOI) during assembly and removing the requirement for X-ray inspection.

Optimized for automated placement processes, the devices feature a Moisture Sensitivity Level (MSL) of 1 in accordance with J-STD-020 standards and support a lead-free maximum peak temperature of 260 °C. The components are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and equipped with matte tin-plated leads that comply with the JESD 201 Class 2 whisker test standard.
