Honeywell has launched a new NDIR gas sensor that uses optical non-dispersive infrared technology to detect flammable gases like methane, propane, and butane in industrial environments. The 4-Series NDIR Hydrocarbon Gas Sensor is designed to safeguard workers and critical infrastructure across sectors including mining, oil and gas, petrochemical, and plastics manufacturing.

The 4-Series NDIR Hydrocarbon Gas Sensor is engineered to integrate seamlessly into both fixed and portable gas detectors, whether used by workers in the field, deep underground, or within processing facilities. These detectors rely on highly accurate and advanced sensors to quickly alert personnel to potential exposure to hazardous gases.
Built to withstand harsh industrial conditions such as dust in mines, methane leaks, and extreme temperature variations, the sensor is both durable and reliable across diverse environments. Its integrated condensation reduction system ensures consistent performance by clearing excess moisture, even in humid areas and confined spaces like refineries.
Unlike traditional pellistor or catalytic bead sensors, which can degrade or become “poisoned” in harsh industrial environments, the NDIR sensor offers high resistance to poisoning, minimizing the risk of sensor failure and reducing false alarms. Leveraging infrared technology, the sensor also consumes less power than conventional flammable gas detectors, extending its operational lifespan and preserving battery life in portable devices.
