Greaves Cotton Limited, a trusted name in engineering with a 165-year legacy, has announced a strategic partnership with Chara Technologies to reshape the electric mobility sector. The collaboration will leverage Chara’s cutting-edge technology in manufacturing synchronous reluctance motors and controllers free from rare-earth magnets. These components will be exclusively manufactured by Greaves and assembled at its advanced facility in Shendra, Aurangabad, serving both automotive and non-automotive sectors, including L5 three-wheelers, golf carts, and four-wheelers.
This alliance brings together Chara’s deep expertise in motor systems with Greaves’ robust capabilities in R&D and manufacturing scale. Chara’s unique motor technology eliminates electromagnetic losses by avoiding rare-earth elements, offering up to 50% energy savings and a 30% reduction in CO₂ emissions due to the use of sustainable raw materials within them. Through this partnership, Greaves will deliver bespoke electric prime mover solutions tailored for OEMs in India’s growing EV ecosystem.
